Rain and thunderstorm alert issued across Pakistan

A rain alert has been issued along with strong winds and thunderstorms while the possibility of hailstorms and lightning strikes has also been predicted in some areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, an alert has been issued for different provinces of the country for the next 3 to 6 hours warning of strong winds accompanied by thunderstorms and rainfall. During this period, there is also a risk of hailstorms and lightning in some locations.

Cloud cover has developed over various parts of Balochistan and according to the alert, rain is expected in areas including Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Pishin, Killa Saifullah and surrounding regions where thunderstorms with rainfall are likely.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a western weather system is also entering the region leading to forecasts of rain with strong winds in Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Dir, Mardan and North Waziristan.

The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert for southern and northern areas of Punjab including Layyah, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan and Taunsa where rainfall is expected. Rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is also likely in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The department has advised citizens to stay away from open areas, electric poles and trees during thunderstorms. Tourists in hilly regions have also been advised to remain cautious to avoid any untoward incidents.
