Pakistan, China explore Green Finance Partnership to boost climate solutions

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, held a high-level meeting with Ma Jun, President of the Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS), China, to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation in green finance and sustainable development.

During the meeting, Ma Jun President (IFS)briefed the minister on China’s Green Accelerator Program, launched in 2016 under a comprehensive framework comprising 35 policy recommendations.

He noted that China has since developed the world’s largest green financing system, valued at approximately $7 trillion.

He further highlighted that China currently produces nearly 70 percent of global wind and solar equipment, along with around 60 percent of the world’s electric vehicles.

Ma Jun explained that the Green Accelerator Program is designed to leverage technology, finance, carbon markets, and planning expertise to develop bankable green projects.

He emphasized that such an approach enables the delivery of commercially viable and scalable climate solutions.

Both sides also exchanged views on the practical implementation of green technologies across different countries. Examples discussed included biochar production from jute wood in Bangladesh, smart irrigation systems in China and Uzbekistan, and sustainable desert agriculture initiatives in Abu Dhabi.

The importance of adapting innovative solutions to local contexts while ensuring financial viability was underscored.

Dr. Malik apprised the IFS president of the Ministry’s “Green Fields” initiative, which aims to connect young entrepreneurs working on climate-focused projects with national and international investors.

The initiative seeks to promote green entrepreneurship and create sustainable economic opportunities for youth in Pakistan.

The minister commended China’s leadership in green finance and technology, stressing that enhanced international collaboration is essential to advance practical, scalable, and locally relevant climate solutions.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to transitioning toward a green and sustainable economy by drawing on global expertise and partnerships.
