PMD predicts rain-wind thunderstorms in upper parts; heatwave conditions in Sindh, Southern Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast mainly hot and dry weather across most parts of the country during next 24 hours, while very hot conditions are expected to continue in Sindh and southern Balochistan.

According to the Met Office, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind, dust storm and thunderstorms is likely at isolated places in upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and the Potohar region. Some areas may also receive moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorms.

In Islamabad and adjoining areas, partly cloudy weather with rain and wind-thunderstorms is expected.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cloudy weather with chances of rain and thunderstorms is likely in Dir, Chitral, Malakand, Kohistan, Buner, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swat, Malam Jabba, Kalam, Mohmand, Kurram, Parachinar, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Swabi, Charsadda and Bajaur. Rain may also occur at a few places in Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan.

The Met Office said Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Faisalabad, Lahore, Kasur, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Sargodha, Sialkot, Narowal, Khushab, Noor Pur Thal and Mianwali in Punjab are likely to witness rain-windstorms and thunderstorms at isolated places, with chances of hailstorms during the period.

Sindh is expected to remain mainly hot and dry, while upper districts may experience very hot weather. Similar weather conditions are likely in most parts of Balochistan, with southern districts expected to remain extremely hot.

In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, cloudy weather with rain-wind nad thunderstorms is expected at isolated places. Heavy rainfall and hailstorms are also likely in parts of Kashmir.
