Karachi Goods Carriers Association (KGCA) summoned an emergency meeting of the transporters in Karachi tomorrow and gave a 48-hour deadline to the government to decrease the prices of toll tax and diesel, it was reported on Tuesday.
President of Karachi Goods Carriers Association Malik Sher Khan demanded that the government immediately withdraw the increase in diesel prices.
He said that if the government does not accept their demands, then they will adopt a strict strategy.
Malik Sher Khan said that prices of diesel should be fixed on a monthly basis. He said that transporters are already crushed due to an increase in prices of tyres and spare parts, and now transporters are unable to run their business.
He confirmed that all the goods transporters are in touch with each other on the outstanding issues.
KGCA General Secretary Nadeem Akhtar Arain said that the suspension of goods transport would disrupt supply chains in Pakistan, including the movement of imports and exports from Karachi, Port Qasim, Gwadar and the distribution of fuel, food and medicines.
The KGCA said it has concluded talks with major transport organisations and would soon announce a final protest schedule. It urged Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb to review the fuel pricing decision and address the issues of the transporters.
