QUETTA: More than 138,000 suspicious Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) have been blocked in Balochistan as part of an ongoing verification process by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
According to NADRA officials, the blocked identity cards are being examined to establish the authenticity of the information provided by their holders. The verification process is aimed at determining whether the individuals meet the required criteria for holding Pakistani identity documents.
Officials said the review of the blocked CNICs was continuing, with authorities checking relevant records and documents to confirm the identity and eligibility of cardholders.
They added that the blocking of an identity card does not necessarily mean it will remain suspended permanently. Individuals whose records are successfully verified and who meet the prescribed requirements are being allowed to have their CNICs restored.
The restoration process is being carried out after the completion of verification and confirmation that applicants fulfil the established criteria.
NADRA officials said the process would continue until the suspicious records had been examined. However, they did not disclose the timeline for completing the verification exercise or provide a breakdown of the cases reviewed so far.
The action highlights the ongoing scrutiny of identity records in Balochistan, where authorities are working to verify questionable registrations and ensure that national identity documents are issued only to eligible individuals.
