Punjab declares long summer break: 22 May to 23 August

The Punjab government has officially announced summer vacations for all public and private schools across the province in view of the ongoing and expected intense heatwave conditions.

The announcement was made by Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, confirming the revised academic schedule for students and teaching staff.

According to the Education Department, all schools in Punjab will remain closed from May 22 until August 23. Academic activities are scheduled to resume on August 24.

Officials stated that the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to protect students, teachers, and school staff from extreme heat and potential heat-related health risks.

The department explained that rising temperatures and prolonged heatwave conditions have made it necessary to temporarily suspend regular school operations.

Authorities emphasized that the safety and well-being of children remains the top priority of the government. The closure aims to reduce exposure during peak summer conditions, which are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.

The Education Department has advised schools to ensure proper completion of academic formalities before the start of the vacation period.

It also noted that monitoring of weather conditions will continue, and any further updates regarding the academic calendar will be issued if required.

With this decision, millions of students across Punjab will now enter their summer break earlier than usual, marking one of the longest scheduled school holidays in the province.
