Farooq Naek’s detainee-rights bill unanimously approved in Senate

ISLAMABAD: Senator Farooq H. Naek tabled a bill in the Senate concerning the investigation of arrested, detained and incarcerated individuals.

The bill was unanimously approved by the members of the Senate. Senator Naek said the legislation ensures that if any person is taken into custody, they must be informed in writing about the reason for their arrest.

He added that if a person is in jail, they should be allowed home-cooked food and necessary medicines. At present, individuals must first approach the court for such permissions, which remain at the discretion of the judiciary.

Senator Naek further stated that an accused person has rights even before any crime is proven against them.
