Punjab announces four-day holiday weekend in February

A wave of happiness has spread among the public after news of four consecutive holidays. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced on social media platform X that there will be a long weekend in Punjab due to a series of holidays.

She stated that February 5 will be observed as Kashmir Day, February 6 will be a provincial holiday for Basant followed by Saturday and Sunday creating four continuous days off. Maryam Nawaz added that she hopes people across Punjab will use this time to rest, refresh and make the most of the holidays.

The people of Punjab are eagerly awaiting the Basant festival. The Punjab government has decorated Lahore in celebration of Basant and all major roads have been illuminated.

How many holidays will there be this year?

The federal government has released the calendar of public and optional holidays for this year which includes 11 public holidays and 23 optional holidays. According to the calendar:

  • After January 1, banks will remain closed on February 18 and July 1.
  • February 5 — Kashmir Day (public holiday)
  • March 23 — Pakistan Day
  • March 21, 22 and 23 — Expected holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr
  • May 1 — Labour Day
  • May 28 — Youm-e-Takbeer
  • May 27, 28 and 29 — Eid-ul-Adha holidays
  • June 24 and 25 — 9th and 10th of Muharram (public holidays)
  • August 14 — Independence Day
  • August 25 — Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH)
  • November 9 — Iqbal Day
  • December 25 — Quaid-e-Azam Day
  • December 26 — Holiday for the Christian community

According to this calendar, government offices, banks and private institutions can plan their annual holiday schedules accordingly.
