Zero convictions in 663 child abuse cases raise alarm in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: Despite hundreds of cases of sexual abuse against minors reported during 2025 in Faisalabad, not a single accused has been convicted so far, according to official data. The situation has raised serious concerns about delays in investigations, prosecution, and the overall justice process.

Statistics show that 663 cases were registered across 45 police stations in the district last year, with 989 suspects nominated. However, the courts have not yet delivered any punishment in cases filed during the same year. The Police records indicate that 131 cases were dismissed for various reasons, while charge sheets in 344 cases were submitted to courts. Another 154 cases were sent to prosecutors with incomplete documentation, and 18 cases are still under investigation.

The data also revealed differences across divisions of the city, with Madina Town and Iqbal divisions reporting some of the highest numbers of cases. Several cases were either dismissed or delayed due to incomplete investigations, which contributed to the lack of convictions.

The troubling trend has continued into 2026. In January alone, 57 new cases involving 76 suspects were reported. Some cases moved forward with charge sheets, while many remain under investigation or pending with prosecutors.

Although no convictions were recorded for cases registered in 2025, courts did announce decisions in a few cases from previous years. In one case registered in 2025, a court sentenced an accused to 50 years in prison along with fines and compensation to the victim in a rape case involving a minor girl. In other cases from earlier years, punishments ranged from 10 years’ imprisonment to life sentences, while one rape-and-murder case resulted in the death penalty along with heavy fines.

The data highlights ongoing challenges in ensuring timely justice for child abuse victims, with delays in investigations and legal procedures remaining a major concern for authorities and the public alike.
