Punjab introduces biometric attendance at sensitive matric exam centres

he Government of Punjab has decided to introduce a biometric attendance system at sensitive examination centres during the Matriculation (10th class) examinations in 2026. The new system will be implemented across the province to improve transparency and prevent cheating during exams.

According to officials, biometric verification will be used to record the attendance of examination staff at these centres. In addition, CCTV monitoring will also be ensured at all sensitive exam centres operating under the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) across Punjab. Authorities say this step will help monitor the examination process more effectively and maintain strict discipline.

The initiative is being implemented under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who has emphasized improving transparency and merit in the education system. The plan is being carried forward under the leadership of Provincial Minister for School and Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat, with guidance from Muzamil Mehmood, Adviser to the Chief Minister on education reforms.

The officials say these measures reflect the provincial government’s strong commitment to ensuring a fair, transparent, and reliable examination system for students across Punjab. The authorities believe the use of modern technology will help strengthen merit and restore public confidence in the examination process.
