A sharp increase in gastroenteritis cases has been recorded in Multan, with 135 patients admitted to major public hospitals during the past 24 hours, it was reported on Saturday.
According to health officials, the highest number of patients was reported at Nishtar Hospital, where 80 people suffering from stomach-related illnesses were brought for treatment.
Officials said Children’s Hospital Multan received 25 gastro patients, while Shehbaz Sharif Hospital reported 18 cases.
Another 12 patients were admitted to South City Hospital, Multan.
Doctors linked the rise in cases to poor food hygiene, contaminated water, and extreme weather conditions, warning that the number of infections could increase further if preventive measures are ignored.
Hospital administrations said emergency and medical wards remain on alert to handle the growing number of patients.
